The Mind Readers

I’ve always been interested in stories about people with special powers, kind of like the X-Men, and so I was thrilled when I received a copy of The Mind Readers to review. It sounded so amazing when I read about the main protagonist, Cameron, being able to read minds.

The plot takes off quickly, Cameron and her friends find a dead body, and Cameron hears the murderer’s thoughts. Now, I thought the whole story was going to be about Cameron investigating the murder, but boy, was I wrong. It is so much more than that.

Cameron is an interesting main character, she really struggles with her power to read minds, and although she uses to it to become popular and to fit in at school, she's really not completely happy with that. She hates that she can't tell anyone about her power.

So when Lewis turns up, and he seems to know all about Cameron, she is heavily suspicious yet secretly thrilled. Lewis is a hot and mysterious new boy at school, who takes an interest in Cameron. I did like Lewis at first, and the whole mystery surrounding him, however he did start to annoy me as the story progressed. I would say why, but that would give far too much away!

The other characters are also well done - especially Aaron - but I would have loved to see more of Maddox, who I just thought was brilliant. I absolutely LOVE what I've read of him so far.

The ending.. oh the ending! The story end at a rather large cliffhanger, and I am now dying to read more about Cameron and her world. I don't think there is any news of a sequel just yet, but I'm hoping that something will be announced soon!

Overall, I love this book, and would recommend it to any YA paranormal fan. The only main thing I didn't like about this book is that it's so short (at 170 pages, it's not short short, but after reading 400+ page novels, it felt short).

The rating is more of a 3.5 stars, but I'd put it closer to 3 because the story is so simplistic.

It's a quite short, very condensed first novel of a series filled with mind readers and several unexplained mysteries. While I can sympathise with the heroine Cameron, I thought her really stupid at some point. Being a mind reader ought to teach her something about human nature, no? She was so easily duped it wasn't even funny. Well, she did pin all her hopes on the first mind-reading guy she met, Lewis, and his mentor Aaron, but clearly the small things giving her misgivings surely were warning enough?

I think I'll read the next book when no other book will grab my attention because the writing is neat and uncluttered, the romance isn't too intrusive, and I always like a good mystery. Let's hope it doesn't disappoint.

DNF at 71% and let me tell you I don't know how I made it that far.
I left the book for a few days for lack of interest and on the very right page I'm starting reading again I get:

"I hadn't meant to say the words, to sound so pathethic and weak...the sort of girl I hated".

Gods, kill me now! This whole book is full with girl-hate comments like that by the most annoying MC ever...she's "oh so special" and the most gullible ever (while she thinks otherwise).

Bye bye book. I will not miss you.

I'd give this 3.5 stars. It started out a little rough and sometimes the characters were not believable. But the story picked up in the second half and really pulled me in.

This was one of the free Amazon ebooks I've been trying out, meaning it's self-published. It's not quite as tight as you might want, but is a good story and has some surprising twists. The ending definitely leaves you wanting book 2.

This book had me running around in circles. It was totally unpredictable, everything I never even imagined happening, happened. It was definitely good, and kept me engaged as a reader. I actually finished it while on a long train ride and was wishing I could start the second installment. The characters were vivid and fun to read, especially Lewis and Aaron, I don't know what it is about those two but I was suspicious of them the entire time. Like Cameron, I could never trust them completely. But then what's this about Maddox all of a sudden?! So many questions unanswered! I can't wait to read the next book and find out where this crazy story goes. I would definitely recommend this for those looking for a refreshing read that isn't your typical girl with some superpower meets boy with same power and fall in love. It's way more than that.

This was surprisingly good. The only complaint I have is the insta-love and the fact Cameron thought everyone was jealous of her. Oh, and I wasn't a huge fan of her constantly asking questions. I understand that this was a mysteryish type book, but still. I can't wait for the second one.

I liked this book and the storyline. But my God, how often can a girl blush/flush in one book? It felt like every other page. And the 'heart slamming against the chest' got real boring after about the fifth time!
