“What if a family isn’t a tree at all? What if it’s more like a forest? A collection of individuals pooling their resources through intertwined roots, sheltering one another from wind and weather and drought.”

Well, this may just be a masterpiece. It turns out novels about books are a favorite genre of mine.

It’s been a long time since a book has left me speechless and tear-streaked. This was absolutely beautiful. It’s a book that focuses on 4 generations of Greenwoods - each individual somehow intricately involved with trees. And it’s how the story is told starting in 2034 and working its way back to 1908 and then forward again that makes this a masterpiece of storytelling. I just can’t get over how real these characters felt and how everything was pieced together so seamlessly. Ugh ok I’ll stop gushing but please do yourself a favor & read this book.

As a biology student who grew up in the PNW, with a great love of trees, especially local ones, I couldn't have read a better book. This book guides you through time with strong characters (some of which are trees).

I am simply grateful to have found this book.
