2.5 stars. I am way above the intended age range for this book but they are ok. Mean girls even in the afterlife. I’ve had these books for years (found in half price clearance section and I liked the cover art). The ending was nice.

I really enjoyed these books. They took a typical high school popularity story and adding a Gothic twist. The School Library Journal review on the back of the books says they're reminiscent of Tim Burton, and I somewhat agree. But I don't think the books are so heavy on the dark Gothic side that readers who aren't usually drawn to that couldn't enjoy them. Mostly, they're a fun satirical look at high school and popularity.
Ghostgirl actually took me awhile to get into, but once the story got going (and Charlotte met up with Scarlet who is my favorite character) it ended up being a fast read. I kept telling myself one more chapter, and before I knew it the story was over. Ghostgirl: Homecoming kept the momentum going from the first book and I think I enjoyed this one just a little more than the first.
I really like how Tonya Hurley is able to write in third person, but gets you inside the heads of each of the character. It feels like you're watching a movie with a narrator explaining what's really going in and what the characters and thinking and feeling. She's also very witty and clever and her love of music is apparent. I love that Scarlet is a huge fan of Death Cab for Cutie-love that band!
My favorite thing about these books is the packaging, which is very creative and fits the books so well. The dye-cut cover is different and fits so perfectly. I had them on my desk at work and teens kept asking about them and picking them up. Major kudos to the design team-the art and the glossy silver pages really make these books stand out. I really like how each chapter starts with a quote and then a little piece on what Charlotte (or Scarlet) is supposed to learn or take away from that chapter. The way it's laid out sort of reminds me of a silent movie screen, when they would show the dialog that the characters were speaking.
Overall, I think anyone looking for a fun unique take on high school would enjoy Ghostgirl. I'm hoping the series continues, as I would eagerly pick up another Charlotte Usher adventure. Also, be sure to check out the Ghostgirl website, which has a playlist and lots of fun activities!

Where back in the afterlife with Charlotte, and things don't look so good. After graduation Charlotte seems to be all alright with herself, who she is, and where she is heading. Thing is after the glamour goes off, she is back where she started, being invisible. All her friends are busy with afterlife phonecalls, and reunions, to even glance at her. This doesn't bother her so much, that is until her new friend Maddy come's into the picture.
Maddy likes to feed Charlottes insecurities. Why? I won't tell you, read the book! And bonus Scarlett is having doubts about her relationship, and Petula seems as selfish as ever, even more so now.
Let's talk about the characters.While reading this book I felt like I, and Charlotte along with me, where back at square one. She was as doubful about herself as ever. This did not go good with me. Scarlet went a few nodges down with me, in all, I didn't feel like MY scarlet was in the pages, not until the very end at least. Damen is a minor character, as always. but the character who impresed me in this book was Petula.
In the plot I'd have to say it crossed from unlikely to unbeliavable. Some things happen that would, or most likely could never happen, and that I didn't think was the best for the story. It started out very slow, a lot of inner chatter that really didn't gave us anything new. Heaven as a phone bank? I got it, sould in the afterlife being our inner chatter and guiding us, it was interesting to see another person's view of the afterlife.
This book has it ups, and it has its down, but all in all it's an ok read. I would read it for it being the second book in the series.
One thing I most liked about this, and the first book, its the intro's to the different chapters. It has messages that are very much true, like for example:
"Trust is not a given. In any relationship, it is the hardest thing to earn and the easiest to lose. In fact, the only words harder than "I don't love you anymore" are "I don't trust you anymore." The former has everything to do with somene else. There is nothing you can do about a change of heart. The latter has everything to do with you."
It makes you think doesn't it? There are a lot more of this in the pages. And finally the ending. While it was a good ending, I thought it resembled the first one too much. It was rushed, but not so, and at parts a little like 'when did this happend?'

*Three and a half stars*
Although a cute book, not as strong as the first. The storyline was a bit convoluted, but the ending was the best part of the book. And not just because it was the end, but because there was redemption and actual character growth. Will continue on to the next in the series since I have it on my bookshelf already.

Ghostgirl 2 tiene virtudes como las múltiples perspectivas, el mismo humor y estilo que el primer libro y las referencias y guiños a la cultura pop y punk. Pero también tiene defectos, como el cambio en Charlotte, repito, si no tuviéramos fluidez en la narración y sería todo sobre ella, el libro hubiera sido terriblemente aburrido. Pero, a fin de cuentas sigue teniendo características un poco de autoayuda y transmite lindos valores. Definitivamente esta saga trata de demostrar la importancia de aceptarnos tal cual somos como así también el valor de la amistad.
