I really enjoyed it. I feel like I understand 1750’s battle strategies and farming techniques now. The romance between the two main characters felt very authentic. The battle and farming portion of the book was a bit dry but the majority of the book was delightful.

I would have given it 3.5 or 4 stars but the word ~member~ was used and that’s an ick for me lol

The final scene of this book literally gave me goosebumps 😭 I enjoyed this so much! I hope the others in the series are as funny and delightful as this one.

*** MINOR SPOILERS ***

The chemistry was really lacking between these two, and I just didn't buy it. The way he talked about her ("the chit", "her tits") really made it a struggle to see him as a romantic hero. They also got physical VERY quickly, I mean, already kissing in two days?? There was no warning, either, all the way up to that point they were at each others throats, then all of a sudden he kisses her, and now they're flirting?! Also, the amount of times that he kisses her just to shut her up were infuriating--she even mentions it, but doesn't do anything about it.

Also, I'm a fan of hearing the Scottish brogue accent, but having to read it for the entire book was a struggle.

A really spin on the english/Scottish historical drama I've read. Loved the H&H and can't wait for the next one. Full review coming soon to the blog.

I tried to like this one, I really did. I liked that Gabriel had a hard time adjusting to becoming a Duke and finding his stride again. Fiona just didn't sit well with me. She was sneaky and rude and betrayed Gabrial one time too many for my tastes. The witticisms just seemed forced to me.

Suzanne is still one of my autobuys, but we can't like them all :)

Gabriel was a soldier and meant to live his life and die as a soldier. When it turns out he's the sole heir to a dukedom, he's determined to sort out the estate as quickly as possible so that he can get back to the battlefield. But a distance Scottish property causes him nothing but trouble. Fiona was happy to watch over the lands of her ancestors without the interference of any English duke, not matter the claim he has over the lands. Her own stubbornness brings Gabriel to their doorstep and he's nothing like she expected. As they work together to uncover the thief in their lands a friendship blooms, along with feelings that are so much stronger. Can the stubborn Scottish lass and the proud English soldier find a common ground and maybe happiness? Really great fun, funny start to the series. I'm excited for what comes next!

This one was just average for me. A good but predictable storyline. This one didn't grab my attention right away and I had to focus to keep reading.
