It took me a little bit to get used to Lourdes’ narrative voice, because that sort of casual tone is usually a turn-off for me, but once I did, it had me cracking up. And I loved the Morte brothers, each of them for different reasons.
I thought the story was paced well, it wasn’t over-written, and the end actually had me crying. This was a solid “why choose” fantasy romance!

I went in expecting to love this book because I had a great time with Queenie & The Krakens and I was so excited to see Lourdes get her own standalone. Lourdes is still a good character that I care about but this book had some pretty big pacing problems for me. It dragged on in places and I found myself putting the book down for long stretches of time. There were pockets of plot or romance development that I really enjoyed but then it would go into a slower phase that would kind of stall it out for me. So it felt like an inconsistent reading experience.
The spice between Lourdes and her three mates was fantastic and creative. At the same time, I would have appreciated more time watching those relationships build a bit more, or at least a different ratio of time spent than what there was on the page. I still enjoy Aleera Anaya Ceres as a paranormal why choose author and will keep trying more of her stuff--this one was just a miss for me personally.

Lourdes and the Mafia was everything I could have dreamed of. I screamed when I received the book because of how excited I was to be in this world some more after DEVOURING Queenie and the Krakens.
The way I felt SEEN in a character. Granted I’ve not have relationship troubles the way Lourdes did BUT the way she lives and loves to the fullest. Her silly jokes, her heart on her sleeve, everything. Wow that felt so cathartic for me.
I also love how real, fleshed out, and different Aleera’s characters are. It’s so refreshing how they all love their women so strongly and their loyalty and bravery are felt amongst all but at the same time they are all their own person with their own traumas, ways of handling things, the things they enjoy, etc.
When I tell you this book had me laughing out loud, getting FULL BODY CHILLS, and so much more. It’s the truth. I loved this book, I loved the characters, and I loved everything about it. So good. And I’m gonna be a greedy little Ceres Slut and beg mommy for more.
