All the wrecky cakey goodness from the blog, and more. And yes, the text is just as humorous as the pictures of the cakes. Perhaps even moreso.
Jen Yates has a fantastical sense of her audience and her writing style is just awesome. This book is full of amazingly bad cakes and a couple good ones for good measure. She tells the story of how her blog came to be and her overall wit is second to none.
Bought this book yesterday- read it today! It's my first book of 2010. Sure there not alot of reading involved, but there is alot of laughing. As soon as I finished (took me an hour) I handed it over to the hubby and commanded him to sit down and read it. He too found it hilarious! If you haven't checked out this book (and Yates' blog) you should, it will definitly brighten your day.
As a fan of the blog, I was delighted to find this quick read at the local library. Jen Yates goes into depth about some of her favorite cake disasters, tells inspirational stories and uses her spunky and biting wit to entertain. It has made me secretly wish I end up with a cake wreck of my own one day. A girl can dream.
If you don't read CakeWrecks, you probably should. I'm just sayin'.
Anyway, the book is better than the blog in some ways, and the blog is better than the book in some ways. I like the blog better because she gives more examples of the types of cakes she's talking about (I'm thinking specifically about the infamous Baby Shower Pregnant Belly cake), and I like the book better because I think it's funnier.

I don't know why everyone's humorous blog needs to be made into a book lately, but this was laugh out loud funny so it was worth it.
CAKE WRECKS: When Professional Cakes Go Hilariously Wrong, by Jen Yates, grew out of her website CakeWrecks.com. The website won the 2009 Bloggies awards for Best writing on a Blog, Best New Blog, and Best Food Blog. People from all over the world send Yates pictures of cakes with unfortunate errors, disgustingly oily frostings, or just plain weird messes, etc., to which Yates adds her snarky comments. Chapters have titles such as “Literal LOLs”, “Beyond Bizarre”, “Wedding Wrecks”, and “Holiday Horrors”.
When my daughter and I sat down to read this together, we knew it would be funny, but we had no idea that we would end up with our faces hurting from laughing so much!
WARNING! Do not read this book in a public place unless you don’t mind being stared at because of your hysterical laughing!

While the blog is very amusing, it doesn't translate well into a book.
