solid speculative fiction with heavy queer representation. i liked the stranger, more horror-tinged stories more than the others. the one about the living patriotic flag was kinda hokey and the big imagined performance in a non-existent hotel felt like bad jazz age fanfiction, but when it hits, it hits! where oaken hearts do gather is the one in here she won a nebula for, and she definitely earned it.

Solid collection. I had read three of these before, including the inventive “Where Oaken Hearts Do Gather,” the rooted in an actual Old Hollywood legend “A Better Way of Saying,” and the creative and creepy “Two Truths and a Lie.” But my melancholy fave is “Remember This for Me.”

Great collection. Her short stories are some of the best out there. This collection definitely had some more horror-y vibes than her last collection did; I loved it.
