I'm sure it's a perfectly fine book but it was about 90% too long for my taste. Between this and The Boys in the Boat, I've concluded I don't like books about boating.

For anyone interested in the Colorado River, water in the American West, the Grand Canyon, or white water sports, this will be a fun and informative read! I got bogged down slightly during the parts where Fedarko wrote extensively about Glen Canyon dam, but I still learned a lot, and I loved reading about the history of the river's exploration with John Wesley Powell. Finally, the descriptions about the canyon and the river were so lyrical and fun to read, and the play-by-play of the speed run heart-pounding. I loved this book!
