Not quite as great as [b:Welcome to the Party|52037431|Welcome to the Party|Gabrielle Union|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1585141340l/52037431._SX50_.jpg|76761880], but that was a pretty high bar! Especially for a celebrity picture book. The rhymes are pretty great, and there's a decent social-emotional lesson at the heart. The pictures are super cute too.

Shady Baby is a fun, learning adventure from a sassy toddler. Shady's mission is to have everyone get along and share. Loved the diversity and message within the story.

I must say, actress Gabrielle Union is one of my favorite actresses & her husband NBA star Dwayne Wade wrote such a hilarious & cute picture book inspired by their baby girl, Kaavia James! When my girls saw this book, they immediately picked this one up saying they wanted to read this one over and over. I promise more on this story later this week!

Shady Baby doesn't take spit from anyone. In a model of confidence and empathy, she knows just what to do when life on the playground gets rough.

This book feels slightly unfinished to me. So many books focus on a problem or character flaw that the main character is working through. This one shows the main character already mature. I love who she is, but I feel like the conflict could be stronger to really show why Shady Baby's way is better. I wouldn't change the tone, though. It's already so clever.

 Shady Baby

I Picked Up This Book Because: Saw it on Scribd

Media Type: Audiobook
Source: Scribd
Dates Read: 10/17/21
Stars: 4 Stars
Narrator(s): Gabrielle Union

The Story:

While I loved Gabrielle’s enthusiasm while narrating I missed having the illustrations. Some type of read-a-long version would have balanced this perfectly. But the story was very cute and I think toddlers would love it.
