To quote The Good Place, Avery is “a messy bench who loves drama, and I’m into it.”

I will immediately grab any book this duo writes. The Golden Couple is either my favorite or second favorite in their lineup (obvs The Wife Between Us is the other in this conversation).

Where to start with this one?

Normally, I don’t like a therapist who plays detective, but here - that’s not Avery at all. Sure she was a therapist who lost her license and sure she follows around her patients to spy on their lives (I mentioned she lost her license?), but her character just hits different. She wants facts and doesn’t want to play games. She’s driven and has things to do.

pretty good!! predicted the ending, but it was still a good story. wish it was a little more dramatic and suspenseful. the narrator kept being like marissa has a pit of dread in her stomach, but like, i wanna feel that!! show don’t tell!! i liked that avery played the detective role, kinda cool. felt old fashioned in a cool way. overall, good read

Both different and totally unmemorable. I stuck with it until the end, which seems rarer and rarer these days.

Oh these ladies get me every time. The short chapters and multiple (compelling) narrators make it so easy to get through their books. I flew this in less than one day. Kept me on my toes throughout. Perfect weekend indulgence.

Compelling mystery, it did keep me guessing longer than many thrillers.
