Oh my gosh. This freaking book. At first, I was on the fence about this book for I was unsure how I would find it interesting after all the previous books I've read this month that are murder mysteries. This one caught me off guard in the first chapter though, and I couldn't've been more excited. The main character had a sort of snarky attitude and way of talking with others while at the same time she was able to explain to the audience what had happened behind the scenes without it feeling like a monologue. The other thing I liked about this book was the characters. oh man the characters. I found it kind of an interesting bunch to put into one room. The only ones that I didn't enjoy that well were the twins. I get how they helped the plot but at the same time I felt they didn't have enough speaking scenes. We got to know then, then moved on. Now onto the boyfriend DANG I enjoyed his character. Without spoiling anything, ifykyk. This book had all types of twists and turns and I felt like it was that one spider-man meme we all know and love. (please tell me you all know the one i'm talking about) Out of all the plot I found the ending to be the one that had me turning the pages like rapid fire. I was freaking out to say the least. Though, I found that it ended almost abruptly. With no after the fact chapter, I was left kind of sad. But it wasn't enough to not give this book the five stars it deserves.

This book was…. It starts out insufferably YA and then you get to the murder and then it jumps off a cliff in the best way. And it was clever! You don’t get that enough anymore. I wanted a cruise ship murder mystery and I got such a bizarre concoction of great characters, dumb decisions, and a genuinely brilliant crime.

I love Diana Urban, but this is definitely the best of her books so far!

Jade's life sucks. Her best friend, Lainey, and boyfriend of two years, Silas both dumped her out of the blue and have been dating each other ever since. Since then, she's been looking forward to the semester at sea trip; 11 countries in four months! Everything's going to be alright until she sees Silas and Lainey boarding the Semester at Sea ship too. As she obsesses over them, obsession leads to death and Jade's friends start to get picked off one by one. It's up to Jade and her crush, Felix to clear her name and figure out what's going on before the next port.

At first, I was only really invested in the relationship drama and not the murders. Diana Urban's two newest books, Lying in the Deep and her title set to release this fall, Under the Surface both have romance as a main highlight and as a hopeless romantic at heart, I enjoyed that aspect. To note, I did find this a bit predictable, but Urban always tries to throw you off and I love a good YA thriller! She's one of my favorite standalone YA authors right now!

My heart is so happy right now! 🤩 I loved this book so much!

Good thriller? Check. Mystery? Check. Romance? Check. Suspense? Check. Twists and more twists? Check and check. An amazing book? Again, check!

Honestly, I didn't expect to like this one so much, but I absolutely loved it!

The story follows Jade Miller who embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: spend a semester studying abroad on a cruise ship. How great is that? Four months, eleven countries and a perfect opportunity to escape her life and sad reality.

Said sad reality being a bad break-up with her boyfriend, Silas, who also ended up getting together with her best friend, Lainey. Ouch.

So this is definitely a perfect opportunity for Jade to meet new people, make new friends, distract herself and just simply enjoy life for the next four months. Or so she thought this is what she'd be doing if Jade hadn't spotted both Silas and Lainey on this same cruise embarking on the exact same ship for the exact same experience. I mean, c'mon life, really? Really?!

Still trying to make the most of the experience and not pay the slightest attention to the two people who crushed her heart, imagining Lainey's death here and there (because why not, right?) Jade learns yet another important and crucial lesson: be very careful what you wish for, because unfortunately some of the most wicked dreams may have a tendency to just come true.
Which is exactly what happens when Jade finds out Lainey has gone missing, and her room looks straight from the horror movie scene: completely covered in blood, everywhere.

What the hell happened? Where's Lainey? Did someone kill her? Who killed her? Is she really dead?

Lying in the Deep is a fast-paced and engaging suspense/thriller young-adult novel, full of twists and mystery onboard. I also very much enjoyed other characters, they definitely gave life and healthy balance to the overall story.

The ending was surprising, and I think I'd like to have just another chapter, but I definitely enjoyed this book very much!

Thank you NetGalley, PENGUIN GROUP and Diana Urban for this ARC! 💖

Suite Life on Deck with murder. Honestly pretty underwhelming. I was bored and only mildly shocked by how it turned out.
