I really enjoyed this. A rare book dealer spotlights various “lost to time” female authors that may have influenced Jane Austen.

This was such a fantastic examination of Jane’s contemporaries and influences.  I loved the author’s approach in finding the authors time forgot and dismissed. Or should I say really that men forgot and dismissed. There’s no question misogyny played a large part in why these women are no longer as widely read.

I’ve definitely added many of these books to my own TBR now, and can’t wait to form my own opinions too.
I’d definitely recommend this to any Janeite!

I loved this. So much! I listened to it on Libro.fm but will be purchasing a hard cover copy for my personal book collection. Truly the perfect combination of interests - Jane Austen, rare books, archives, history, feminism. So well researched, nicely balanced between a more academic and a more reflective tone, and prompted me to add so many books to my TBR.
