Is it too late in life to become a rare book dealer? This took me back to my Jane Austen class in college. I loved the reflection on female authors, their legacy and how the canon isn't always to be trusted.

It was fun reading about Romney's exploration of Jane Austen's idols.
I like how the chapters were formatted, divided into different women, and Romney explored their beginnings and their ends. Jeez, these women had pretty sucky lives...as most women did back then. :(
My biggest issue is--stupidly enough--the lack of pictures. I really would've appreciated pictures of these rare editions the author collected. She describes them in great detail as a book collector, but the terms went over my head. A photo of the book she spent months looking for would've been really helpful. It doesn't have to be a fancy photo, but I'd really like to see why these were such a big deal.
I would've rated this higher but I feel like it went more into the rare book collecting aspect rather than actually analyzing Austen's inspirations and how they affected her stories. At most, Romney mentions the "Pride & Prejudice" title being lifted from 2 books but that was about it.
I could've done less with Romney's personal anecdotes and life--no offense--but I was reading this for Jane Austen and her forgotten inspirations, not a book collector's spiritual journey.
