i liked it, ms disiena definitely hyped it up too much tho

Answers the question, "how weird would it be if your dad sounded like a Keanu Reeves lobotomy?" Actual quote from main character's dad: "She's like, whoa, she's like so stressed out. This is... Dude," he said. "Dude, this is some way bad shit."

So obviously I loved it.

Go ahead and try to say that quote in a robot voice and laugh your ass off, okay? Look, I'm trying to do you a favor here. It's going to sound hysterical, so just do it. I can wait.

I think about this book all the time because it's so damn prescient.

It felt like a combination of Asimov, Orwell, and Idiocracy. It cut straight to the point and ended cleanly. The audiobook was so immersive that I was truly locked in during my drives and eager to listen.
I’d suggest this book to anyone anti-corporation, anti-consumer, or even just worried about the education of children nowadays.
emotional fast-paced

I can't believe this book was published in 2002, it is a prescient take on a future ruined by tech.

I was actually surprised at how well this held up from when I first read it 11 years ago. Titus as a narrator was annoying, but the story is unfortunately more relevant than ever. Specific aspects that stuck out to me were the corporations refusing to treat Violet because they cannot figure out how to profit off of her, and the algorithm that knows what you want even before you do. It's a fairly basic "indoctrinated citizen learns to question what they've been taught" story, but still a solid YA novel.

this book starts out rather shallow, then takes a turn and by the end gets very deep. lots of serious stuff going on in the end. really well written. recommended.
