The most interesting thing about this book is that it was written before social media algorithms and so perfect predicted  the state of media in 2025 (just without the wetware).

It its a depressing look at a rich and sheltered teen who when faced with emotional hardship buys hundreds of pants online while living in a world driven by consumerism to the point of ecological collapse.

It was a very quick read and an interesting intellectual exercise.

*uni read

the potential to be a great read was there, but this book is executed awfully.

the story seems so disjointed and lacks the proper connection for over half the book until the very end when you get a cohesive story. the lack of consistency to me stifles the emotional impact of the ending (which you could guess was going to happen).

i think it tries to focus on too many themes within the dystopian setting so it lacks the proper pacing needed to fully explore the consequences of the world. it also fails to give an in depth commentary on the issues that are trying to be presented in the book.

the sentence structure is long-winded and doesn't make sense grammatically, and the use of slang seems out of place and disturbs the flow of the text. there's also way too much swearing (which i understand because it's teenagers) but it again takes you out of the story in a way that's almost unrecoverable.

i think it's time to ban ya science fiction as a genre.

I was a bit skeptical of this book at first, it just wasn't reaching me but near the end it hooked me. Very well done. Lots of things to digest.

Meditation on consumerism and the impacts of it. Basically a dystopian future where algorithms rule the upper class and the lower class suffers. Quick read that left me feeling really down and low and pessimistic about society.

I'm not sure what to say about this book.

I didn't like Titus, the main character. I didn't like the world, I didn't like the constant advertisements. I didn't like the people. I didn't like that no one took Violet seriously.

But this is a good book. It's a scary book - a realistic commentary on American society that should scare the dickens out of everyone who reads it. It's like your Google account on steroids.

This is true, good science fiction. I should probably rate it higher for what it is and what it says. I just didn't like anything else about it - hard to enjoy spoiled college students acting like jerks and being so self-centered.

it was definitely 3 stars up until the end. i must say im extremely sad that Violet didnt make it in the end and im pissed at how they left things. definitely added a star for the emotional response i felt towards the end.
