Phenomenal world building

This was always my favorite vampire book series. Lots of original content, addressing classism, plenty of drama, and a ton of adventure. My only criticism is that there isn’t a ton of build up for either of the romances. I understand that a decent amount of time passed in the book and the author couldn’t write about every little interaction that made people fall in love but she could’ve spent a smidge more time on it. Other than that a great read with good plot twists!

I enjoyed this audio, the story and its characters. The only thing that irked me is that it's named after the school...the main thing our MC Rose kept trying to run away from LOL.

Otherwise, I adore her character and the high school atmosphere. The story, at times, seemed to drag. Vampire Academy focused more on the student body, a teacher whom cracked and was hauled away and a popularity competition. Then there's the Princess that Rose is training to protect for the rest of her life. I find it really depressing...Rose can "never" fall in love and have a family of her own. She does find a love interest, that can leave you teetering "oh yah! she could find love" yet "yikes...he's over 18 and she's only 16". Gosh this is like Aria and Ezra from Pretty Little Liars LMBO *sigh*

Picked this up again for the first time after almost 13 years and, well! I enjoyed it so much!

I remembered bits and pieces here and there but I absolutely adored rediscovering it all.

Rose is such a badass! She’s a strong, resilient main character. I love her friendship with Lissa, I love Christian and Lissa, I love Rose and Dimitri, I love the plot and the twists— when I think about it, I realize 13yo me had not fully grasped how GOOD this book actually is!

I didn’t expect to be powering through this SO fast and to be so invested again, yet here I am, ready to pick up book 2 asap.

Final rating: strong 4 stars, and only because I’m thinking it will just get better from there!
(And also because, A 17 YEAR OLD GIRL, REALLY DIMITRI? Again, 13yo had NO idea back in the days. *sigh*)

I had an absolute blast reading this. There were several problematic things I didn’t remember (such as how Rose is 17 when her and Dmitri get together for the first time), but there were some good messages mixed in too, and honestly, I just had fun. I can’t ask for anything more from a 2007 vampire novel

Somehow these books hold up even though they are almost as old as me.

I think this story is very mature and nicely handled for the time it came out.

The age gap between the main love interests didn't bother me as much as other stories because of how well it was handled. The characters new it was wrong, and they make the right decisions in the end.

I also really liked how it didn't shy away from the topic of depression and self harm; and that sometimes medication and therapy really is the best way to cope with it.

I just wish we wouldn't have been stuck in Rose's head.
I would have liked to see more of Christian and Lissa's interactions to really buy into their relationship.

[ I love Mason and he deserves the world. ]

Im really excited to continue with this series and see where the story takes me next.
