I felt such a kinship with Eliot. Losing a grandparent is difficult at any age and so is trying to find yourself within the context of a new place. I so hoped that she would find her place among both the living and the dead and was not disappointed!

First of all, i cried a bit at the end. I may not have had the sobbing experience I had with some other books of Akemi, which is probably due to it being a middle grade, it's still an amazing story about grief, loss, friendship and family bonds.

I just love Bowman's writing, and while it's been a while since I've picked up one of her books, I recognized it immediately within these pages. This story is so heartfelt and raw--I can imagine it will be a balm and source of catharsis and healing for young readers (and older!) who go through this kind of loss. There were a few teeny plot points that I felt didn't quite make sense, which prevented this from being a full five-star read, but the tone, the topic, and the message are all incredibly worthwhile and I highly recommend this one!

Akemi has done it again. She's left me an emotional teary-eyed mess once more. Ugh, this book is just so beautiful, I need time to recover before I can write a full review.
