I have read Daughter of the Pirate King quite a while ago but I think I remembered everything important. The things I struggled with the most are the names because there are just so many different characters which all have unusual names and some of them are really unimportant.

I kind of like that Tricia Levenseller is not scared of killing of characters but it just isn't that impactful if you don't have much sympathy for the characters.
Even the main characters are not that 3 dimensional and I didn't feel for them much. I did like their characteristics and the dynamic between the characters (I'm always a big fan of strong female friendship and female leaders). Still I felt like reading a story about these characters which I enjoyed but I didn't feel their pain at a betrayal at all. I just felt very distant.

The part I liked was that it kind of felt like a female Odyssee. The dynamic on the ship was really fun to read about as were the challenges they had to overcome.

The main character was really oblivious sometimes and some of the relationships felt forced and strange to me.

All in all I know that there are people who will probably love this book immensely but it just wasn't it for me.

! Also I was sick while reading this book so that might have impacted reading experience.

This book was a fun read. I definitely loved the setting and the characters. I especially loved that we got to meet more of the crew, and I absolutely loved Roslyn. However, I did rate it lower than the first book because I felt that it mostly ignored the possible romances, which I was quite excited to read about. I would be elated if we got some short stories to get insight on what happens after this book. I have to say though, I really appreciated how this book explored Alosa’s relationship with her mother. I definitely let out some audible gasps with this book.

Okay so this was the first time in a while I picked up the next book of a series without rereading previous books. That didn’t create a problem apart from trying to familiarise myself with the characters again.

Also hellooooo?? Did anyone notice a huge step up in the graphic content 😳 I definitely would put this in upper YA because I…an adult now…was even disturbed at some of the scenes and events that happened. Also a step up in the steamy scenes but that’s still fade to black. I’m talking about the cannibals creeping me tf out 😬

Anyways, I really enjoyed Alosa and her loyalty to her crew. She goes through a lot and comes out strong every time. Some parts are still a little petty/childish like holding a grudge for something that the other person clearly explained why it happened (if you know, you know)

Yeah, overall a solid book! Much more darker and disturbing but lighthearted enough in between to still feel comfortable and safe while reading

Is this the best book I've ever read? No. Did I enjoy it! Heck yeah. I had so so much fun with this duology, it was exactly what I needed. I don't always rate based off enjoyment but.... I had to.

This was very fun and more entertaining than the first book I think. Good conclusion although I think it would have benefitted from an epilogue.
