Picked this up right after i finished the first one of the series. Did not let me down. I was so sad when it ended. Just overall an AMAZING fast paced never got boring type of book.

I remember really loving the first book in this series so I was expecting to love this too but I felt much more mixed. There's a lot to like, but some things left me wanting more.

What I liked:

* A crew of badass female pirates - sign me up for this premise!
* It took me a bit to settle in and feel invested with where the story picks up, but once I got settled I had a hard time getting it down.
* This book has an extremely fast pace. This kept me invested in all the action especially because I did love all the supporting characters and felt they had strong personalities through the whole book.

What I struggled with:

* At times I wished there was more scene setting and detail. For example, I thought the main character was far older than she is until the very end. I also liked her a lot less in this book. She's very selfish and impulsive and not self-aware at all. I wanted a little more growth from her - we get some by the end, but I felt frustrated a lot during this book. I love Riden but the romance plot felt underdeveloped and thus unbelievable in this book.

Overall, I enjoyed this and I'm glad to have returned to this sequel. This isn't my favorite YA series, but it's a fun and different type of YA fanrasy that is still a nice change of pace!

I love it! The sequel from the first book has a nice turn as it picked up where it was last written. It's a struggle of trust and insane battles fought while letting your mind lost to the story. It made me think how cruel parents either end up making their children a replication of horror like themselves or an empath hollowed with all those traumatic events - gradually relearning and reliving that life can once again, sail on right seas. While reading, it was easy to stride in with imagination as I took references with the movie I've watched on my childhood, "The Pirates of the Caribbean". Another lesson to ponder over was the inclination towards greed for power and honour, without compassion and love it has been an eye opener that this imbalance pulls inhumanity over certain selfishness which can take many years but if not realized is left with karma - death.

I loved the first book and I love this one even more. The cliff hangers at the end of the chapters are great and make you not want to put the book down. <Spoiler> Since Alosa finds out her fathers secret she goes against him and compared to finding the map in the first book she actually goes to the Isla de Canta and she’s met with so many challenges and adventures
. Overall, great book and I hope you give the series a try!
