I liked this sequel, it was everything I expected it to be of a book with Sirens and pirates.

Unlike the first book where the supernatural element was “sprung” on us, since we knew about it from the start; it just seemed to make the book feel more cohesive and flow better.

I did find the middle a little bland and almost boring and repetitive… there is only so many descriptions of being at sea and almost kissing Riden a girl can take…

The romance needed a little more, the cocky quick witted charmer from book 1 was gone and replaced with almost personality-less guy who’s only redeeming characteristic is he loves the MC…

But gripes aside it was an entertaining read and I enjoyed it for what it was.

I have read Daughter of the Pirate King quite a while ago but I think I remembered everything important. The things I struggled with the most are the names because there are just so many different characters which all have unusual names and some of them are really unimportant.

I kind of like that Tricia Levenseller is not scared of killing of characters but it just isn't that impactful if you don't have much sympathy for the characters.
Even the main characters are not that 3 dimensional and I didn't feel for them much. I did like their characteristics and the dynamic between the characters (I'm always a big fan of strong female friendship and female leaders). Still I felt like reading a story about these characters which I enjoyed but I didn't feel their pain at a betrayal at all. I just felt very distant.

The part I liked was that it kind of felt like a female Odyssee. The dynamic on the ship was really fun to read about as were the challenges they had to overcome.

The main character was really oblivious sometimes and some of the relationships felt forced and strange to me.

All in all I know that there are people who will probably love this book immensely but it just wasn't it for me.

! Also I was sick while reading this book so that might have impacted reading experience.
