Aaaaaand, now we're trying to redeem Eva and Roy, despite each have done despicable things and have shown next to no redeeming qualities up to this point. I will say, Nina getting the froma for Poe and Dario standing up for Nina were both awesome moments and I adored each. However, Angelica and the Student Council were so cartoonishly wicked and sheep-like that it was hard to take them seriously. This is still a good series, but this volume isn't as great as its predecessors.

This manga is too adorable! If you’ve read the prior two in the series, you probably already know if you’re into it or not. If you liked the first two, then you’ll like this one too.

I love the art style of this series. It’s too cute! And the content is light and fluffy. You know, aside from the imprisonment and abuse of the luga race. But Nina is an easy protagonist to root for. Typical sweet champion-of-the-underdog character. Roy is a great love interest too. Broody and rebellious, but secretly good. It seems like the main function of the accessory characters so far is to help show Nina’s good nature, but I look forward to seeing their development in the future. Though I still appreciate that the focus is on Nina and Roy. It is a shoujo manga after all!

The story is continuing to evolve, though slowly, but that’s typical of manga like this. We still have the mystery of the school’s management. All we know is that it is run by humans to groom luga to be the future workforce, but we don’t know who is really behind it. We still have no idea why our protagonist transformed into a luga in the first place. But we have some further development on what the student council is, and one human in charge is revealed by the end of the book.

An interesting continuation, though the cliffhanger is a tad frustrating. You’ll see!

So the end of this volume seriously still has me holding my breath. No harm better come to Nina or I’m going to freak out. Also, can we please finally act on this sexual tension between Roy and Nina? Thanks!

This review originally appeared on my blog, Books Without Any Pictures: http://bookswithoutanypictures.com/2018/04/26/beasts-of-abigaile-vol-3/

Beasts of Abigaile is a manga series about a girl who gets turned into a part-human part-wolf hybrid. But the humans who live in the kingdom have enslaved the wolf people, and now Nina must go to a prison-like school on Abigaile Island with the other wolf children to learn how to be an obedient slave. That school is much like a typical high school, and has all kinds of high school drama, but with the added layer of werewolf life.

Volume 3 is really about whether Nina has been accepted into werewolf society. She has to wear a special perfume, because otherwise the luga (werewolves) will smell that she’s human. But when Nina’s perfume is stolen, she’ll find out where she really stands, and if her friends will like her now that they know her secret. They’ve been hurt very badly by the humans, and so the real question is whether they’ll hold it against Nina that she was once one of them.

This is the first book in the series where I really started to like Roy, the alpha male werewolf/probable love interest who turned Nina into a wolf in the first place. In the other books, I thought he was an ass, but here, we see him give Nina the chance to prove herself. And I had thought that Giles (the nicer werewolf guy) was a good person because of the way he looked out for Nina in earlier books, but my impression of him is somewhat changed.

This is also the book where we figure out the secret of the student council, which leaves off on a giant cliffhanger.

I can’t get enough of this manga and the next one does’t come out till fall! Whatsoever shall I do??????

In this volume we get to see Roy the bad boy's soft side and Gilles the good boy looking tragic. Honestly I'd be happiest if this love triangle ended in polyamory, but I feel like Gilles has eyes for someone else. I'm not sure about that relationship yet. Eva got redeemed. (Although, she's lowkey transphobic, so her ass needs to get that sorted). Her obsession with Roy makes more sense. I'm glad she wasn't left to be the raging girlfriend(?)/ girl who's only motivation is liking a dude. I feel like any issues I have are quickly resolved (minus of course the whole timeline thing, but that's whatever). I love all these characters. I absolutely adore Nina. And the story got a little darker, which is delicious.
