Reminded me of The Secret Life of Bees. Very emotional and drama filled but I loved it. Interesting to get a tour of Australia. Loved Pip.
Something about the storytelling in this book settled in my chest in a way I can't shake. It's beautiful and haunting and actually satisfying in its entirety. This is the first book I've listened to as an audiobook which I immediately purchased to read in its physical form later.

This was interesting. It was a bit all over the place and I really couldn’t reconcile young Alice with adult Alice.

Não tinha expectativas para este livro. Não conhecia, foi-me emprestado e recomendado e a capa fascinou-me.
A história começou muito bem. Boa escrita, fluida.

After a second read ( for my bookclub) I have reduced my rating from 3 to 2 stars...and it probably doesn't really deserve 2 stars.
The 'meanings' of flowers didn't grab me. Just so much mumbo-jumbo.
The characters are mainly one-dimensional and yet we get long descriptions of their past trauma - even minor characters like Moss - we don't need to know about as it doesn't add to the story.
Abuse and manipulation seem to be the main themes here. June is a master at it. Abusing Alice through lies and secrets, manipulating her whole life. Clem abuses Agnes and Alice. Dylan abuses Alice. Dylan abused Lulu. June abused Oggie and his Mum. Nasty piece of work, June. And Thornfield is a trap rather than a place of healing. Candy never escapes!
The writing is descriptive and interesting when detailing the landscape but sometimes just silly. For example, June puts her Blundstone boots on and walks silently into the house. Nope. I have those boots. They are not silent.
Why are the Australian farmers driving around in trucks? They drive ute's.
A final thought - Alice has a degree in communications. Oh, the irony!
