This book was a difficult one to read. It was sad from the very beginning. I really liked this story though, it was (unfortunately) very real. I loved the descriptions of the flowers and the Australian landscape. I loved the native traditions and meanings that were described as Alice joined the Park Service. Overall, it was heartbreaking and hopeful all at once. Cycles can be followed and often time are, but cycles can also be broken and better lives can be formed. This was a good reminder of that.

Have to say it was a bit "flowery" for me, uncomfortably sentimental at times. I got irritated by the constantly changing points of view, where even minor characters randomly inserted themselves into the narrative, for no apparent reason. It went on way too long. Listening to it as an audiobook it wasn't so obvious where the end would be and I got to a point where it felt like the end (or it should have been the end) only to find it rambled on for another few chapters, tying up loose ends. As well, the narrator of the audiobook had an irritating voice, frequently softening into whispers, supposedly to enhance the mood, but just making it hard to hear.

My absolute favourite book of all time. Astonishing how well written this book is. It truely took you through the ripe emotions of coming from a disordered family and the need to break free. Whilst showing how even the deepest wounds can be stitched together with more then just words. She especially, gave you the understanding of the child like mind making you reflect on how innocent children mindsets are when even the horrible is committed. 100% from me babes you nailed it.

Once again, a beautiful, bleak Australian book has captured my heart. Ringland absolutely depicts the Australian landscape well, both the small seaside town and the harsh, red outback. She creates amazing characters and the story is absolutely gut wrenching. I'm excited to see what she comes out with next.
