I was pleasantly surprised to find this much less about princesses and more about the ways in which education can enrich a town even as the investment of time and energy in achieving it burdens it. And also about princesses, and mining by using the magic of song, it's still a children's fantasy novel. An excellent recommendation from Kindra.

This is my favorite comfort read of all time. I've loved this book ever since I was a kid and can rely on this book to always leave me feeling happy and relaxed. The premise behind the story is so fun and if you're into themes of royalty, competition, and a fun twist at the end. Highly recommend!

This wasn't what I thought it was going to be (another pretty princess story). I held off on reading it for years, but I'm glad I gave it a try. I love the strong, young female characters and the emphasis on the fact that reading, a skill the takes lots of practice, does open up a world of possibilities.

Loved this book. This book turned me from a non-fiction only reader to a fiction reader. It launched me into all of Shannon Hale's books.

Princess Academy is a good book about a girl figuring out her place in her hometown when she is not allowed to work in the quarry like the rest of her family. When Miri's hometown is selected as the place where the next princess will be chosen, things are thrown all into a ruckus, setting up a princess academy and getting the girls set to be chosen by the prince. But things are always what they seem, and Miri and her friends seem to have gotten more than they bargained for.

This book was nothing like I remember, but I loved it nonetheless.

Four and a calf out of five cows.
