I have a bad habit. I love people?

lots of sadness and anger and grief in these pages.

I really liked the poem about Nia Wilson that inspired the title of this collection:
Never more than an hour away from being
just another dead black girl.

It also talks about the art of creation and how it shows us who we are:
I used to be an expert in lying and love poems.
You don’t necessarily need one for the other,
but it helps
Especially for those uninclined to believe in love
I am hopeless and a romantic
I’m not sure love exists for me
And romance is a difficult fiction to craft
beautifully

They say we are made of stardust, but surely
there is nothing so bright in me.
The man who called himself God broke me
and called it humility.

you see books like this make me wish i knew more adjectives for brilliant because this book was simultaneously brilliant and devastating. all too real because there's so many brilliant black girls who were taken from our community, from their communities, way too soon.

and i wish i had synonyms for honest but again, that's exactly what this book was. honest and devastating. there's trigger warnings like transphobia, child abuse, and suicidal thoughts.

can i just call this whole book devastating. not in a beautiful way because devastation is never beautiful but in a way that hits you in the face.
