I was really disappointed with this final book. The main character turns into a degenerate. She doesn’t have a love interest either. She just have boy toys.
The series should start and end with Air Awakens. The follow up isn't that good unnecessary.
Eira is way to arrogant to be liked and an ending with single love interest (Cullen) would have been much better I think.

I really loved the ending of this book! This series was super fun and a thoughtful expansion of the world. It wasn't my favorite of her series in this world, but i appreciated it!
I love that these books started online and are self published. She has created such a robust fanbase that feels driven by community and creativity in this over commercialized space.

It's always a good feeling when the last book in a series has a satisfying ending.
This series had its hits and misses for me, but overall I had a good time. Loved the pirate vibes; our main character not being your average "hero" type was so refreshing, and all the side characters stand on their own. Also, I just freaking love this world; I will read anything that Elise Kova writes in it.
I like how everyone ended up; it was very fitting and satisfying for each character. I'm happy. ^-^
Anyways, I can't be bothered to write a better review.

A Trial of Sorcerers is definitely the weakest series set in the Air Awakens universe so far. Despite this, and despite the fact that finishing the last two books was a bit of a struggle, I still find myself disagreeing with some of the more popular, negative reviews.
Eira's core struggle since the first book has been about finding where she belongs, and, come the end of An Heir of Frost, she finally has her answer--she's found her home. While some may find her acceptance of the pirate life and the evolution of her personality from a young woman that just wants to be accepted to the ruthless heir of the Pirate Queen jarring, I found it to be a natural progression given all she's endured and lost. From the very beginning she was taught to conceal, don't feel (a la Elsa from Frozen), the very people that should have accepted and believed in her--her family--scolding her and making her smother her gifts instead (it was their misguided way of protecting her, and they were doing what they believed was in her best interest, but they definitely caused Eira no small amount of mental anguish).
Now that Eira has been allowed to blossom, found herself a mentor that encourages her to push beyond her limits and embrace her astounding powers, she's finally ready to bring down the Pillars and Ulvarth, avenging her brother and Noelle once and for all. While the final battle was a bit too quick for my tastes, it was satisfying nonetheless and concluded the revenge plot that has fueled Eira's every decision and move since the end of the first book.
I know some were disappointed by the romance, and while I do understand the frustration of not having a "concrete" conclusion to the love triangle, I think we were definitely given a resolution, and a realistic one at that. Forever is a long time, and Eira, more than anyone, knows that tomorrow isn't promised. People are constantly changing and growing; her goals might not always align with those she loves, and she accepts that. Embraces it, even. She wants what's best for those she cares for, which allows the people in her life to pursue their own destinies without fear of losing her or her love--be it platonic or romantic--and I think that's wonderful. I don't really see this story as a "Why Choose?" romance either, since it's pretty clear where Cullen and Olivin stand by the end of the book and which of the two is more likely to remain at her side for "forever" (it's also not a crime to love two people or to have an open relationship if all parties involved are onboard; I DEFINITELY don't like seeing people call Eira a whore and find the slutshaming from the fandom pretty disappointing).
Anyway...definitely not my favorite work by Elise Kova, but a good, solid adventure with some wicked water magic. Worth a read if you're a fan of the Air Awakens universe and want to see Waterrunners get their time to shine.

The first book was really amazing, I really enjoyed it but as the story went on, it really just felt dragged out. In the first book she says she fell in love with Ferro, which I don't agree with. She had lust feelings for him... there's a difference. Then she started liking Collen, and he turned out to be promised to someone else, I do believe she loves him. And now in the 3rd book she's mixed up with another guy literally a day after Collen hurt her... no man. Skip for me.
I may not have always agreed with Eira's choices or even Eira as a character but overall this book wrapped up everything nicely.
