Well...Elise Kova certainly knows how to hold my attention. I have adored this series and it was a near perfect ending to another brilliant adventure in this world.
Firstly, I must say, please read the Air Awakens series, the Golden Guard trilogy and the Vortex Chronicles series before this A Trial of Sorcerers. It sounds like a lot but it is SO worth it. One of my favourite worlds with incredible characters, mind blowing magic, beautiful love stories and an overwhelming amount of action and adventure.
This final installment of The Trial of Sorcerers did not let it down. From the start we were thrown back into this epic world and didn't really have time to breathe from start to finish. It is SO engaging and addictive and I am truly obsessed with this world Kova has made. I felt this storyline ended really well and the twists and turns to get there were pretty epic.
One of my favourite things is the character building and the journeys they go on. Every single character has grown so much in these five books and it was really interesting to see. This is especially true for our lead female Eira who is definitely morally grey and full of power. She is a force to be reckoned with and I loved her confidence and love for her close friends in this book. She surprised me a lot and although I didn't agree with some of her choices, I also don't think I was meant to.
Her "crew" is made up of many brilliant characters that add so much to the overall story but also have stories of their own. It added so much depth and interest.
I will say, I can't quite give 5 stars as I wanted a little more clarity on the romance aspect at the end of the book. I felt a little frustrated that zi didn't get that. But I still loved how Elise Kova navigated the romance in this series, it was truly refreshing and had a why choose trope.
I am sad to see this series come to an end and just hope that it isn't the end of this world I love. I am however very excited for the two new books/series Elise Kova will release in 2025. If you love fantasy...READ THESE SERIES!
Please note that I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

A Queen of Ice is the conclusion I feel like I've been waiting for for 9 books instead of 4. While Elise writes her series so Air Awakens or Vortex Chronicles can be read beforehand, I fully believe the experience reading this series after Vortex Chronicles is so much more satisfying!! That said I don't intend to spoil any of the jaw dropping and heart gripping moments. Experience this world for yourself because that is a reward in and of itself.
The growth every character undergoes is something that is truly impressive. Kova captures a multitude of flaws and lessons that I think many readers can relate to. All while immersing the reader in her world. From new places, to referencing onces you may already love from the previous books, there's so much packed into this final novel as well as the entire series.
I'm sad that Elise may not visit this world again. It's been amazing to explore these characters, their quests, and the beautiful places Elise Kova crafted. For magic, romance, action, adventure, and friendship don't miss these books!
