Although a moderately enjoyable read, this book is a little heavy-handed in pushing its philosophy on the reader. The message is very thinly-veiled and the author comes off as a little bit pretentious. Also, the voice is very 1970s, and reading the book kind of feels like watching an old TV show, but not because of any plot or setting details. It's a quick and easy read, though, and I don't regret the time spent on it.
One of those books that came just at the right time and changed my way of seeing the world. A perfect injection of magic.

Martı Jonathan Livingston’un benim için yeri ayrıdır. Kendisinin dünya görüşüne katılmıyor olsam da kitaplarını okumaktan hoşlanıyorum. Spiritüelliğe, enerjiye ve bunun benzeri şeylere kendisini adamış bir kişi ama benim onda sevdiğim yanı uçmaya büyük bir sevgi besliyor olması. Mavi Tüy kitabında yollarda tanıştığı bir ‘mesih’i anlatıyor. Bu tanıştığı kişi oldukça enteresan ve öğreniyor ki bu mesih yolu öğretmeye çalışırken insanlar ondan sadece mucize beklemiş. O da mutlu olmanın çaresini yalnızlıkta bulmuş. Tamamen kurgusal bir eser ki zaten aksi düşünülemez. İçerisindeki kurguyu sevmemiş olsam da bazı cümleleri ve bazı kısımlarda aktarılan mesajları beğendim. Özetlenecek olursa kişi istediği sürece her şeyi yapar tarzı düşünceye sahip. Bazı açılardan bu doğru olsa da felçli bir insanın düşünerek yürümeye başlayacağına inanmıyorum aynı şekilde suyun üzerinde yürüyebilmek veya düşünceden oluşturulan mavi bir tüyün gerçekliğe dönüştürülebilmesi kitabın fantastik olarak sınırlanmasını sağlıyor. Richard Bach’ın anlatımındaki sakinliği ve mutlaka uçuş tecrübelerinden, gördüklerinden bahsetmesini seviyorum.

This is one of the books I try to read every year or two. It speaks to me.
While I enjoyed Richard Bach's Jonathan Livingston Seagull when I first read it as a teenager, it was both for its philosophy as well as for its gentle humor and simple (though not simplistic) view of the important things in life. I did not have as positive a reaction to Illusions. While it was mildly interesting to me, it seemed more like somewhat amateurish fiction than anything that was especially thought-provoking or developmental. There are some good quotes in the book, and it held my attention as a young man, but I don't think it would now. JLS, on the other hand, though much shorter and quick to read, led me to think and ponder on some important life issues...issues that with age (and hopefully added wisdom), I still believe are critically important. Illusions just didn't do that for me.

For such a short book, I didn't breeze through this as I wasn't fully engaged in what was going on. But I don't think it's supposed to be a gripping page turner.
I would say it's a great book for discussion, what is meant by the occurrences and relationship between the two main characters.
It might be something I come back to every now and again, not to read in full, but just to open at random and take something from whatever's being said.

I don't buy any of that new age bullshit, but I love biplanes, this book is pretty fun and pretty bitchin.
