I think 3.8 is the perfect rating. The father-daughter relationship is really sweet and the aspect of never getting things right in life or not truly getting to redo things even if you’re magically given the chance to resonates. It’s a light and easy read and you feel mostly good for reading it but I wouldn’t go so far as to recommend it to others (though I wouldn’t deter them if they chose to).

I enjoyed this but didn’t love it and I borrowed from the library with no plans to buy it.
Some great themes, but the story didn’t really have any pivotal moments that had me on the edge of my seat.

Loved Page 109 discussing the phases of life and my favorite quote:
“How do you know which choices matter? And which ones are just dumb?”
“Everything matters. But you can change your mind, almost always.”

I also liked the discussion with the psychic about the Tarot card- the Fool representing new beginnings or the start of the journey and being in the moment.

Disliked entire scene when Tommy and Alice sleep together. Author tries to write away the problems, “he’s 18 so technically you’re covered” conversation with Sam and “my 40yr old self slipped into the recesses to my mind and allowed my 16yr old self to take over”
No. Just no.

Found it really interesting that Alice could tell Sam that she was time traveling, that her dad also traveled back to the day of her birth and that the neighbors also traveled.

The bday card from her dad made me tear up and I loved that she kept going back to see him, to learn more about him and that he did end up writing the 2nd book.

Interesting concept. I think the important part of the story was about her relationship with her father. It took a while to get into it, but then I really liked it.

Almost cried but didn’t

One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. And I’ve read A LOT in the past few years. Wow. Didn’t expect it to hit me in the feels as hard as it did, but given the stage of life I’m in and the constant reminder of the fragility of life, this one really hit home for me. And I think it will too. If you’re not crying by the end of it, you surely will be after you read the author’s note.

Tell the people you love how special they are while you still can. Seriously. Do it. Right now.

For me this book was good, but not great. I enjoyed the last third of the book once Alice had told Leonard what she was doing and we learned he was traveling too. I liked that the focus was on the strengthen of their father daughter relationship. Overall though I felt the first 2/3’s of the book was a bit lacking and I just didn’t find the plot compelling. The references to other time travel media was a fun inclusion, but I did not feel the book in particular added anything to the genre
