Fantastic writing, characters, story, and ending. Perhaps most impressive is the way she writes about so many different characters, from so many different worlds and different eras, and they all feel right and genuine. Modern day Gen Z podcasters, sci-fi old timers, high school kids in the 90’s, upper class millennials - and they all feel spot on. When something feels effortless, there’s no doubt a lot of hard work went into it. This story made me laugh and cry and feel all the feels. Favorite line: “Happy endings were too much for some people, false and cheap, but hope — hope was honest. Hope was good.”

Probably one of my favorite books of the year so far! New to me author, but the premise intrigued me. So glad I was able to receive an advance copy via NetGalley.

3.5⭐️

Loved the writing, got a bit confused at the end by the concept

This is my favorite Emma Straub book so far as it has a bit more depth than others I've read. And I thought the time-travel was well done, if a bit predictable, and appreciated the exploration of Alice's relationship with her dad, and with her best friend Sam, though I wish we got a bit more backstory on those two. Overall, a really good and moving novel.

SOLID 4. A great work on the nature of grief and retrospection.

A great birthday book for my 45th. Puts you right in the sandwich years state of mind. Thoughtful, but not nostalgic.

I thought this one was fine - definitely held my attention but not so deep. Maybe a 3.5
