I had rated the other books in the series 4 stars each but this one I didnt seem to enjoy as much as the other ones. I wasn’t sure if it was the style of story telling in the way he wasn’t directly interacting with the characters involved in the murder or it was something else, but I found myself disinterested and disengaged for chunks of the audiobook.

Simply amazing that after so many books, Horowitz hasn’t become one of those authors that phones it in! This volume is as intricately plotted and slyly funny as ever, with all the meta-commentary I’ve come to expect. And the audio version is the way to experience it, with excellent narration from Rory Kinnear.

The style departs from the earlier books - I appreciated that the writer acknowledges this, but it did make for a slower and less enjoyable plot. Hawthorne & Horowitz don’t spend much time together in this book and it made it less enjoyable for me.
