obviously, nothing particularly "good" ever happens, which is why it's called a series of unfortunate events. the villains are hilarious, so that makes up for some of the annoying mysteries that don't get solved in this book. all in all, the penultimate peril is comparatively enjoyable.

though if you are looking to read a book about happy stuff and solved mysteries and blah blah blah, then...this may not be the book for you :)        ...that's basically what it says on the back of the book, too.

What a twist at the end. Sometimes you have to do what you need to do to survive is what the moral of this story was.

This series, which I read years ago, made a lasting impression on my life. It's excellent read for preteens/teens, and not only entertains but educates. On a lighter note, since this book "penultimate" has been one of my favourite words.
