This was a strange book. I went in into not really sure what to expect, and well I still don't know what happened. I mean yes I know what happened, it was just done in an odd way. It was similar to We Were Liars, but in my mind not as good and oddly done. I was able to fly through this I just really am not able to express how I feel about this in words. The one thing I can say is that I hated the relationships between the characters, some of them even felt wrong and just not right at all.
Honestly I would not recommend this book to anyone, but if you think you'll enjoy this then by all means read away.

This is the author's first book and the second I read. I'm totally mesmerized by the way she writes.

Cara, her big sister Alice, and her "ex-stepbrother" Sam must face another "accident season" along with her mother. It happens every year in the month of October. Scratches, wounds, bruises, and broken bones are part of their daily lives during this month, even though her mother and they take several precautions. Why are they cursed with this?

Bea, Cara's best friend, has read in the tarot cards that the accident season of this year is going to be the worst. What does it mean? Even worse than the one four years ago?

Not only will they have to deal with this month's curse, but also a series of curious and even uncanny events. One of these is the strange disappearance of a childhood friend of theirs, Elsie. Cara is determined to find her, but every time she asks someone about her they seem to don't know her at all. It's like she's been invisible all this time. Where is Elsie?

⚠️Finally, I'd like to highlight that there are some serious and terrible events in the story. I can't explain more, because it's part of the development of the plot.

I've really liked this book. The way Moïra Fowley-Doyle weaves the story in a magical surrealism world, the characters, the plot and the mystery surrounding them all is fascinating. Another book by her that is hard to put down. I totally recommend it

This was altogether different than what I expected. Dark and haunting, the accident season was a work of art. Really nothing was what it seemed, and the way everything connected together was amazing. The secret booth seemed unassuming at first, until all the family secrets start to unravel and you realize the whole book is about secrets. It really was a wonderful read (I wish I had gotten to in October) and I would wholeheartedly recommend it.

This is a non-spoiler review.

This was an amazing, mysterious and (at a few times) very creepy book. Perfect for Halloween.

The story revolves around a family where every october they all become accident prone. This is what really intreged me when I first heard about it. But the story never started at the beginning of october. It started in the middle of the month, this made me feel very cheated by the author, because they skipped 2 weeks worth of possible extended plot. But as I went on with the story, I got sunken into the plot, it was masterfully written and very much a book I look forward to reading again in the near future and would definitely recommend it for a halloween festive read.

There were spontanious accident happenings all of the time, but, I would have liked to see more. I felt like there wasn't enough accidents to call it the "Accident season". And maybe more serious accidents to say the least. But I did find when an accident did happen, all I wanted to do was read on. Just to see if everyone was still alive, injured or otherwise.

I didn't really connect with most of the characters as I thought I should have. They felt very forced to be different and weird as much as possible, which made me feel a little differently towards them. The main character Cara was very in to her overactive imagination and constantly saying it when she had a drink. she was very compelled in to finding this girl named Elsie, who appeared in every picture Cara has taken ever since she was young.

Bae was the type of person who carried tarot cards. Whenever someone would ask her a question, she almost always referred to her cards. Other characters in the book refers to her a a witch. But I get she was a very free spirit.
Sam, despite being Cara's ex-step brother, was a very flat character and didn't really have any personality. He was boring. More of a side character, more development and a better plan for this character would have made a better side plot.
Sam is the sister of Cara and held a lot of secrets that were that weren't relevant until the end of the book.

Overall I did really enjoy this book. When I wasn't reading it, I was constantly thinking about it. I always wanted to know what was going to happen. If you see The Accident Season where ever you are out and about, pick it up and give it a read. It might surprise you.

i think this book is heavily misunderstood. Its not supposed to be conventional. Its not supposed to satisfy you. Its not supposed to make perfect sense. I think thats why a lot of people rate it low.

i think it was beautiful. strange and dark and confusing but magical. so magical. ive never had this feeling before but i saw the world different after coming out of the book. such an amazing feeling and its incredible a book could do this to me.

The Accident Season is full of magic and secrets - I thought it was a thoroughly enjoyable puzzle. Not always happy, not always sad but always interesting

I have spent most of the night and this morning freaking about over this book. It's amazing.
The Accident Season is a book that changes the rules of fantasy books. It completely steps into its own shape. I don't know how to define this book only that you wont want to put it down much, it's fun and witty, and it honestly leaves you feeling like you just blew back in on the hurricane from oz, or crawled out of wonderland.
This book isn't the usual fantasy, it is reality...

The book is about a family, Cara Morris' family. They dub October as The Accident Season because they become accident prone. A lot of bad sh*t happens during this one month every year. You begin the book thinking that there is some magical solution to the curse of the accident season, only there's the plot twist. And it's a big one.
Moïra Fowley-Doyle takes the "curse" of the accident season, and the fantasy of the world she creates and rips it back into reality. In a way that will tug on your heart strings. She shows us how fantasy has changed Cara and & her family (and friends) view of the world. She shows us how it is an illusion to help them cope with what they have been through, the accidents, the trauma, the pain, and everything they experience. How they use fantasy to explain the inexpiable. But she does it in such a way which still suggests a hint of magic, a flicker of a ghost, a sprinkle of wonder and mystery.

Though I do think the book took a little turn off the tracks during a few chapters and a few scenes seem well...unneeded. It is a book that I think any one who likes a bit of fantasy will enjoy.
The story ends in a way that is not too high, but not too low. It ends with acceptance and the coming together of the family. Including the family friends.
Honestly this book amazed me (even though it bored me at times, but nothing is not without its cracks, or dint's.) it twists the tale while keeping that sense of magic the in-between.

I didn't really have time to fall in love with the character because so much was happening, and being explained, and there wasn't much description. However I fell in love with the story line, I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I couldn't wait to understand the accident season and see what caused it or how to stop it. (though the latter never really happened) I still loved the story. And the plot twist still shocked me and made me feel sorry for the characters.
There was romance in this book, some of which I don't think was needed but none of it took away from the story. Also things seemed to just happen without reason or explanation and the excuse seems to be that everybody in this book keeps their secrets. Even if it isn't secret.

Though I loved the plot twist, which mind blown me because I was not expecting, it makes sense and is heavily implied throughout the book. It also get's explained a little and that's what rips this book back to reality for me and it's what begins to show (whether it was intended to or not) how sometimes we escape into imagination and remember or see things differently.
I loved the fact that Moïra Fowley-Doyle had a way of making you do what she wanted, think what she wanted, and see what she wanted you to see while reading this book. At one point she describes someone (who is important to the story) as a person you will forget with the turn of the page, and that you did because so many things happened afterwards that you actually push her to the back of your mind until the dust settles. This really adds to the book for me because it connects you to it. However I thought that the characters could have been better, more could have been done to make me fall in love, and care, about them. However considering it's a short book I think the story is more important and it kept to it and kept spicing things up which made me want to see how the story ends even more.

Moïra also added fantasy creatures which I really liked, and enjoyed the way she went with them because she doesn't entirely say whether or not magic is real. But she does keep it anchored to reality. So it could have been real, they could be real, or it could be the imagination of teenage Cara Morris trying to cope with the life she has had. This is how the book keeps that sense of magic, it doesn't dismiss it, but keeps it anchored to reality in a way that means it could be real or it could be something else all together.

I had so much that I could write about but I don't know what to say apart from the story, the characters, the mystery, and the plot twist were all amazing. Although I still don't fully understand the accident season the way it ended, it's final few chapters, explained how our minds can play tricks, how we use fantasy and imagination to forget, and how somethings are just coincidences, and somethings are just a mystery. But most of all it tells the story of a family that come together to get through what they see as the hardest time of the year, how they stop keeping secrets and band together to help each other face the truth, heal, and move forward. Together. And how it is important for us to remember our past, our loved ones, but also move on towards the future - not trapping ourselves in the past (or a burning down ghost house). It's the story of a group of teenagers learning how to cope.

If you like a bit of mystery, fantasy, and realism then this book is for you. Especially is you like a book that gives you goosebumps. A book that is just like that house that looks perfectly normal, and everything can be explained, yet you still feel a bit of magic in the air that makes the hair on you neck stand up. And I'm still not sure If Else was a ghost or not. so the mystery stays.
