I really enjoyed this comic! I watched the movie before getting my hands on this and was super impressed with how many things I loved from the movie were direct pulls from the book. The relationships between all the characters were super fascinating and entertaining. Mostly an adventurous and emotional story, but with plenty of humor. Definitely pretty violent with some gore but not excessive in my opinion. I highly recommend for anyone looking for an action packed, emotional story with a bit of fantasy.

I watched the film first, I love all of the characters. And surprisingly I loved them in here too!

The story was a little different but I enjoyed it, I think the style and the dialogue are really good. It was a little fast paced for me, but I don’t know if that’s a standard thing with comics that I’m just not used to.

A good, quick read with decent gore and nice art :)

As a huge fan of the 2020 film adaptation, I scooped up the original graphic novel and its sequel on the recommendation of a friend that was part of a list of Queer comic recommendations.

If you, like me, come to the graphic novels by way of the film, you will find the film to be a very faithful adaptation of the graphic novel. In fact, based on memory of the film, it is an almost shot for shot recreation of the graphic novel. You may either find this an entertaining revisit and prep to try out Book Two, which was my takeaway, or you may prefer to just skip this one and go straight to the movie.

My one struggle with the graphic novel, which I think the movie improves upon, is the area of character-building. I don't think we are given quite enough time in this first slim volume to live with the characters and see them develop, and this makes the acceptance and partial forgiveness of the traitorous behavior of one of the group members a little bit of a stretch to understand.
