When Haruki comes across wildlife photographer, Narumi in the middle of a snowstorm in his hometown in Hokkaido, he invites him to take shelter in his home. Though Haruki is quiet and introverted and Narumi is warm and outgoing, the two become fast friends. Narumi ends up staying through the winter, searching for what he calls "snow fairies" to photograph. What follows is a season of slowly falling in love amidst the ordinary day-to-day realities of life and the shutter of a camera.
Oh. My. Goodness.
This was such a sweet, slowburn, BL romance! Honestly, I would say it's the perfect title for someone just dipping their toes into BL. There's obvious attraction between the two leads but it remains very sweet throughout the duration of the story. There's no high drama but the emotional stakes keep you invested from start to finish.
It was a joy watching Haruki and Narumi fall in love with one another, especially through the device of taking photos that Serizawa employs throughout. You can see the attention to detail of the craft of photography from both the art and story.
The art was perfect in capturing the setting, from the coldness of a Hokkaido winter to the coziness of Haruki's home that was built with such love. The characters have lovely designs that suit their personalities perfectly. The expressions were on point throughout, especially all the sweet blushes and loving gazes between Haruki and Narumi.
This would make a great read this winter. Just make sure that you have a warm, cozy blanket to wrap yourself up in as you read!
