This was the most adorable, lovely story ever!
Akihito Narumi is a wildlife photographer, who set up a tent at the side of the road in a little countryside town, to take photos. He didn't even notice the snow until a man appears - Haruki Homura, a local farm owner, to tell him that his car is completely snowed in. Haruki is nice enough to help Narumi dig his car out, and then offer a place to stay when he realises this city boy is living in a tent, in the snow.
Through some gorgeous artwork, we get a super sweet forced proximity, snowed-in, one-bed scenario. It's a slow burn, but sweeter for it, with a childhood illness, grumpy-sunshine trope, and strangers-to-friends-to-lovers.
The slow growth, the character progression, the exploration of grief and loneliness, finding joy in the small things. Haruki's parents died when he was young but grandma lives next door, and I utterly loved how easily Narumi won over grandma and even the cat! While Haruki is understandably serious, Narumi helps him find the joy in life again. Narumi teaches Haruki how to use a camera and it's so stinking cute! When they're developed the last photo reveal is lovely!
I love Grandma and Haruki's friends. They showed that Haruki was so deeply loved, but that he was still so overcome with grief for losing his parents, and the stresses of living alone and running the farm alone, in a place where the rest of his neighbours were elderly and he felt they were his responsibility. He'd forgotten that he wasn't an old man too, and that was so well written.
I actually got a bit teary over the last few pages. I took so many screenshots of lovely moments, and that makes this a contender for the best book of the year already.

When Haruki comes across wildlife photographer, Narumi in the middle of a snowstorm in his hometown in Hokkaido, he invites him to take shelter in his home. Though Haruki is quiet and introverted and Narumi is warm and outgoing, the two become fast friends. Narumi ends up staying through the winter, searching for what he calls "snow fairies" to photograph. What follows is a season of slowly falling in love amidst the ordinary day-to-day realities of life and the shutter of a camera.
Oh. My. Goodness.
This was such a sweet, slowburn, BL romance! Honestly, I would say it's the perfect title for someone just dipping their toes into BL. There's obvious attraction between the two leads but it remains very sweet throughout the duration of the story. There's no high drama but the emotional stakes keep you invested from start to finish.
It was a joy watching Haruki and Narumi fall in love with one another, especially through the device of taking photos that Serizawa employs throughout. You can see the attention to detail of the craft of photography from both the art and story.
The art was perfect in capturing the setting, from the coldness of a Hokkaido winter to the coziness of Haruki's home that was built with such love. The characters have lovely designs that suit their personalities perfectly. The expressions were on point throughout, especially all the sweet blushes and loving gazes between Haruki and Narumi.
This would make a great read this winter. Just make sure that you have a warm, cozy blanket to wrap yourself up in as you read!

I definitely loved this manga. It's beautiful, and the storytelling is excellent. The artist makes great use of visual storytelling elements to heighten the emotion of several scenes, and many pages are extremely fun to look at. My favorite is the skillful use of the camera itself as a visual metaphor in some scenes.
