As a book it was great but as the conclusion of a series it felt a bit rushed
While I did love getting to know these new characters I don’t think I will pickup this series again when re-reading PJO (maybe house of hades and mark of athena, those were great)
Still excited to try TOA!

I finally finished this series! For some reason, I never quite warmed up to this series as I did to Percy Jackson, which I loved! But this one was the best yet, for a very simple reason: Reyna and Nico's plotline.

Their POVs were the best in the book and I was so happy to read about their quest whenever it came on. I never really paid much attention to Reyna, but she really won me over in this book. I'm really disappointed in the ending though. The whole Will/Nico thing just felt rush and false to me. After being with Nico for 8 books now and watching him always being a loner, afraid to show his feelings, pushing everyone away, unable to open up to anyone, we see him finally find a companion in Reyna, who is just as lonely and rejected as he is and knows just as well what it is like to deal with demons from the past (and in the presence) just to have him fall for some random guy at the end in a matter of two days. WTF??? Okay, so I know that Nico is gay, so I'm not pushing a Reyna/Nico ship, though I think they would go well together. Simply because both of them have been secretly craving for love all their lifes, but never showed it to anyone out of fear for hurt or rejection. Reyna was the first person Nico opened up to and vice versa. Since there are many fandoms that ship a slash ship with canon heterosexual characters (or at least characters that were at some point in love with a person of the opposite gender) I don't see how you cannot ship a heterosexual ship with one person that has been in love with someone of the same gender.
But as I said, the whole "romantic" aspect of their relationship doesn't matter too much to me, however I am so so disappointed with how their paths just split at the end. Why am I following their awesome chemistry and relationship building through 500 pages only to have them be like "Was nice to meet you, BYE!" at the end? And Nico being in love with a guy who isn't more than an OC. WHAT THE HELL?

I would have wished for them to stay a team, maybe go on future quests together or something, but at least stay close to each other. And we were just left off in the dark with the whole prophecy around Reyna not finding love in a demigod. Why have the fandom conspire about a prophecy if it's just not going to be said at the end?

So yeah, the book was good, the ending... meh, slightly disappointing.

i honestly loved nico's and reyna's build-up and being the underrated duo in the series, and nico's pov where we could see his way of interpreting things. although i wouldve loved it more if they included percy& annabeth's pov cs apparently theres nun (also hazel i think).....

Better than I remember it being. I still think it's one of the weaker ones of the series, but look, it's Rick Riordan. Even his less-good books are still top-tier overall.

Spoiler I think a lot of the "problems" I had with BoO when I was 16 make sense now. The biggest thing, of course, being the absence of POVs from Percy and Annabeth, which I wasn't thrilled about on my first read. Now it makes sense, because ultimately, this story isn't about them. I mean it is, but their roles weren't to be the "Big heroes" of the quest. They did their part; now they're passing the torch on to another generation of heroes to let them save the day. And honestly, they deserve it. I hope they're happy in New Rome together.

Also, how old is Nico? Because I'm pretty sure this timeline doesn't check out. But anyway.

I think I just died. I can’t process everything yet. This was almost perfect. The one thing I did not like was the Reyna POV. I don’t know why I just did not.
Everything else was amazing. Percy and Annabeth’s plan for the future? I’m crying tears of joy. Nico straight up admitting his crush on Percy to him and then saying sorry, I’m over you though? Phenomenal. Jason, Piper, Hazel, Frank? Soo excited for their future. And of course, my boy Leo? That ending was just too good to be true. I hope we get a series about his adventures.
The hint about Apollo’s punishment? Poor guy but I can’t wait to read that series too.
Overall, I’m definitely going to reread this in the future to hang out with my crew again. I hope we get to see all their lives until the day they die at 150. Can demigods live that long? Let’s find out please!!!!

A summer to remember.

I waited the better part of a decade to read this.

What a finale. The combat was somewhat brief, while everything around it was brilliant. Riordan's dialogue is cheeky but sincere, world building succinct and stable, callbacks and cliff hangers abound as he wraps up this saga.

There's not strictly a boy everything at the end, but an invitation into the next, more mature chapter of our demigods' lives.
