I had a review written for this and it disappeared...so let's see if I remember what I wanted to say...lol
I will say, although I enjoyed this book, I was also disappointed in it. I loved the side characters more than both the FMC and MMC. That's not to say they weren't enjoyable too, but the eccentric cast of side characters was unbelievably hilarious.
Riley was good FMC. She was living with these crazy people in this boarding house-style home who for the life of them had no sense of self-preservation, which only added to the hilarity and chaos. Riley was like any person struggling with her abilities, especially after something comes true out of it. She tried to avoid it, unsuccessfully, and then decided to embrace it so she could just 'get this over with'. In embracing her ability, it showed her other interesting things that ultimately...had no real change in her life. She didn't try to do anything with them. She just kind of had the vision and then went about her life. Although her connection to Nick was there....that's all it really was. I liked them together, but I just didn't feel much in their relationship.
I overall liked Nick as a character. He was drawn to Riley, but also needed her to solve the murder in the house. Through his desire to complete his job, he is thrust into the middle of this crazy cast of characters, trying to stay aflot with all their antics, fight his attraction to Riley, and solve murder. Definitely a big challenge that he manages well. I liked his interactions with everyone, and I found the story was a bit more fleshed out when he was on the page.
However, this book was way too long and it took way too long to even get into solving the murder. I remember it being more than halfway before it started in earnest. I found myself checking how much longer I had instead of really enjoying the story, and that is what ultimately did this series in. I don't think I'll be continuing, not because I don't think it's good, but because of how long this one took to even get into the plot after introducing it, and the lack of connection I felt to the MCs.
However, it was still an enjoyable read.
