It pains me that this wasn’t a 5 star read for me because I’ve been waiting for this book since the end of the royal elite series.
I had such high expectations, especially from the crumbs we had in previous books of these two. The unrequited love trope was heavy in this and I didn’t love Eli as an mmc enough to overlook the pain he caused Ava. This did feel like reading a watered down deception trilogy.
I also found the banter super cringy, relying on internet memes to make jokes just killed it for me. RK has written books with much better witty humour, this was a bit of a cop out.
The redeeming part of this book was Ava’s mental health story, I think this really added more dimension to her character and I felt sad for her suffering. Eli’s care towards her around this, especially towards the end improved his character too.
final couple rankings for me:
1.) Glyndon & Killian
2.) Cecily & Jeremy
3.) Landon & Mia
4.) Nikolai & Bran
5.) Anni & Creigh
6.) Eli & Ava
