I listened to this book. The narrator was very good and the story was engaging. I had a good sense of the characters right away. I hated the bad guys and cheered for the good guys. But once the 'ethical' part of the story started, I could've chucked it right out of the window. I was fast forwarding quite a bit during the PETA/vegan/animal rights preaching. I almost quit. But the one-liners and wit held me.

I thought this was a solid and enjoyable mystery with memorable characters, mixed with some moralizing that was a bit more heavy-handed than I would have liked. Still a fun read!

Pretty interesting. Writing is pretty easy to read, though it does jump from 1st person to 3rd person narrative quite often.^^^^How ethical is ethical? Pretty much so that the assassin is a vegan (I know that doesn't make any real sense, but if you read the book... you'll see where I'm coming from). ^^^^Interestingly, the book talks quite in-depth of the tortures the poor animals go through before they end up in our supermarkets and plates. It's one of those things that you know about, but your mind kind of doesn't want to retain because it's just so horrendous.^^^^It also talks about ideology, which was rather fascinating.

Parts of this book were great. I liked the unique setup - a young man selling encyclopedias happens upon something dangerous and has to deal with the consequences. It was a quick read but pretty superficial.

I felt like two different people were writing. Some of the scenes were interesting and well-drawn. Others were awkward and choppy. I appreciated the ethics of the book as a vegan myself, but the author wasn't very subtle with it, and it was just thrown in with no effort at subtlety. Also the protagonist's romantic interest was a little forced.

I would read more by Liss because he has potential, but I would suggest that readers who are interested in his books try a different one than this.

felt like a lecture on why you should be vegetarian under a weak veil of humor.

The story was okay, but the whole theme was WAY too preachy for me.

There were some very funny parts to this book, which kept me entertained as I listened to it on audio while exercising.
