I thought this book was interesting, reading it now I am realizing how dated it is. I do appreciate how the book delves into deeper topics than most children's novel and deals with them in an authentic way. I did not love this book as a read aloud because I felt that the religious implications were too present and I there was a word or two I felt was inappropriate and that I skipped as I read it. Some of my students liked it but some did not because they felt it was too sad.

this is probably the first book I ever hated. At least its the earliest that I can remember, I don't even know what about it I didn't like. I just remember lamenting reading this book and this is coming from the kid who used to read anything she could get her hands on.

A surprisingly cute read. I’ve always loved dogs, and this was a good book. Not much to say about it other than that. I found Judd’s character interesting, even if he did seem rude. The author really has a way of keeping you intrigued in the story. I’d read this again.

Shiloh is on the Oregon Battle of the Books list, and I read this to help with my son's group. Shiloh is a great story that shows an 11 year-old boy learning that all life has value, including cantankerous persons. I really enjoyed how the story shows that life, including matters of law, is not black and white and that almost everything has grey layers. This wasn't overly sentimental either, and would be a great book to share with young animal lovers.

Blech. Fantasy is awesome. For possible fiction, this is fine, but definitely not my favorite.
