I am not normally one to enjoy romance books but this one truly enraptured me. I am sad that this story is a stand alone as it is written as if there was meant to be a sequel; which there isn't and no plans of ever having a sequel. I truly enjoyed how the author wrote LGBT+ rep as she writes them like any other straight romance. Like they're NORMAL. She doesn't make a big deal about queer romance or identity which was refreshing.

This was fun!
I liked the setting and the overall idea, and the LGBTQ rep. But sadly, everything felt rather flat to me, the characters as well as the world building and the plot. Also, it became kind of repetitive after a while and things didn't seem to pick up.
Nontheless, I had a nice and easy time.

I could not believe it when I was granted a digital ARC and started reading it immediately. I loved the author's writing style and shared a few cool sentences on Litsy, but the truth of the matter is that while the writing style is good, the book itself was disappointing. Not only was it predictable, but I didn't get any chemistry between Elise and Claire. Part of me wishes this book had been a part of a duology so that certain plot elements could have been developed better.

I'm definitely interested in seeing more of this world. I'd be interested in seeing how the other paranormals truly feel about being governed by two vampires. I'd also be interested in seeing if Claire ever truly becomes human.
I enjoyed the story, but how Elise mastered her powers felt a little deus ex machine to me. The reveal of Rose's true identity was well foreshadowed from the very beginning.
I really love Sterling's writing style and how she writes relationships that feel so real. I'll be a long time reader for sure!
