Actual rating: 2.5 (hey goodreads you wanna come out with a better review system yet?)

I really wanted to like this, and while I enjoyed bits and pieces of it, overall it was a let down.

It started out interesting but quickly lost me. Extremely character driven with not much plot to speak of, which is fine in some circumstances, but the drawn-out dialogue was exhausting.
At one point the main characters got into an argument and I swear to god it lasted 20 pages. SO DIALOGUE HEAVY.

The relationships in the book were cute. Friendship and romantic alike, but they seemed a bit fabricated/fake/out of touch. Even for fiction. Everyone is very touchy-feely and wayyyy too nice.

Zero diverse rep in the areas of race and body type. This is a tiresome issue. I didn’t read the first two books in this series but I heard there isn’t diversity in those either. Do BIPOC people not exist in this world?

No shocks or climax points, except for the sexual ones L M A O

The one big thing it has going for it is the fact that the character development is pretty solid. The two main characters deal with a lot of heavy emotions and do a good job communicating expectations and boundaries and seem to heal together.

Def would have rated a bit higher if I hadn’t been so bored during certain parts and if there was more diversity and an unfolding plot that involved more than just a few trips with friends. It wasn’t that the book was bad. It simply wasn’t exciting or memorable.

side note: I read this as an ARC and hope it has since undergone some editing because there were some pretty obvious grammatical errors I noticed.

Alexandria Bellefleur is so consistent in delivering sweet, cookie-cutter romances. She's easily a go-to author if I'm looking for a straight-forward spicy sapphic romance. (Her spicy scenes are good good.) I also love the complexity of the growth the characters go through over the course of the novel and it is shown so well through their conversations and the way they approach their relationships with others.

However, I think her works painfully lack diversity (besides the queer rep of course). I would kill for some POC/trans/disabled/Jewish/mentally ill rep in this world. It feels a little too "picture perfect" cis white able-bodied Hallmark movie for me.
