a book club book that legitimately kept my interest.  this is a novel in which the main character, Robinson Crusoe, is marooned on an island after a shipwreck.  Crusoe spent an incredibly long period of time isolated on this island.  Merely surviving because of sheer ingenuity.  The scenario is really eerily similar to that of Tom Hanks in the movie Castaway.  The difference being that Crusoe was marooned in the novel a few hundred years ago, while Hanks plane crashed in more modern times.  But either way both faced the same situation in that the way were pretty much given up for dead and all by their lonesome.  I did enjoy the book and although I was not readily familiar with Daniel Defoe, I did find that the book kept my interesr.

Listened to this as an audiobook with my boys. Such a great story, full of adventure and imagination, as well as some great passages on considering God's providence. Some bits are a bit cringe worthy these days, but that in itself helps to understand the mindset of the times and why certain horrible decisions were made, particularly in our Australian history. My boys also didn't love the repetition of the story when the journal passages started. It took them a while to regain their interest.

I just didn’t like it. It was so boring and I didn’t care about anything that was happening. By the way, my distaste fir this book has nothing to do with the really racist elements, because that will be in most texts from before the 20th century, I just didn’t like it and can’t ever see myself revisiting it. If you like it, props to you, but it was a week of my life I’ll never get back

I absolutely abhorred this character. Not only is it tedious (really spending pages on and pages on the detailed descriptions of farming, seasons, etc.) but there's also an unrelenting sense of capitalism. Crusoe exploits absolutely everyone and everything. He kills so many "savages" and sells enslaved people. I didn't find anything redeeming about his character to be honest.

Robinson Caruso was written by Daniel Defoe

The story follows the life of Robinson Caruso most notable how he ended up on a stranded island and his life on said island.

A great story and adventure. I loved the amount of detail and thought we as a reader get from the story. It makes you think how would you do if you were stuck on an island all alone. While the ending missing the mark for me just a little bit it is well worth the read.
