Felt so tempted to just get the hell off the island and leave Robinson Crusoe talking to himself about how to properly build a fence. But you know, not dreadful.

What a slog. The one interesting part was Crusoe wrestling with the morality of killing the cannibals that visited "his" island. Otherwise the philosophy and theology are very basic. And preachy. What am I missing? Was Defoe the 18th century Kirk Cameron?

I mean, for being written in the last 1600s, there's quite a bit to keep you engaged. Beaches full of bones, a weird ending with a bear attack and a bunch of wolves, survival on an island. It was a bit too long (not sure if Defoe published it serially) but it wasn't terrible. I think my son would like it. Part of my problem is my commute has been shortened a lot (Thank you Jesus!) so I'm only listening in 15 minute increments.
All in all: not bad. Narration by Denny Sayers on Librivox was very nice. :)

I'm amazed how much I truly disliked this book, since the storytelling is very similar to the children's book My Side of the Mountain, which I loved as a kid. Maybe it's because I can't stand novels about being at sea (I don't know why, I just do), but I could not enjoy this.

Took two tries! Middle was fine, but the beginning and end bored me!

I read it the first time in 2019 and was curious to see if it's still is a 4 stars for me. And luckily it was. For a novel written in 1717 (i think at least.) It's surprisingly readable and while it's not the most exciting classic I've ever read, I didn't find myself bored by reading this. Of course the common setback for many classic is that it's contains some questionable things in it that as a modern reader feels quite wrong to include. However it was written a long time ago and not this year.

The ultimate DIY

This was a fun, quick read! I never read the story before and when I found this book at the thrift store I had to take it. I liked the adventure and the drama. Although sometimes I found it not of these times. Wanting to keep slaves, eating turtles? Yeah, not from the time. It might have been okay back then. Still, I enjoyed it.
