Apparently this is related to an event? Even in comic events, though, it's still generally possible to follow the story without having read the crossover issues. Not here. If you haven't already read the crossover issues, don't bother with this one. The artwork was pretty bad, too.

I prefer to read the volumes (4/5 issues all in one) but I can't get my hands on volume 3. I'm loving this re-imagined Buffyverse in the modern world.

My Thoughts On: Buffy the Vampire Slayer #9
1. Joyce is just out here breaking my heart today. "I hear a lot of young people saying they're scared to have kids... Because they think they'll miss them up somehow. But the world is an ugly place. There are things you can't protect your children from. Because you can't even protect yourself. Where does that leave me?"
2. Is Joyce actually buying Buffy's sudden "field trip out of state" excuse, or is this just her in deep denial? Did Buffy even have time to give such an excuse, or did her friends and Giles come up with that one?
3. So goes Willow, so goes my nation, and so goes my heart for her in her breakup scene with Rose. Rose is completely valid in her concerns and needs, but also Willow has gone through trauma and needs some space to process and figure her shit out.
4. I'm really not into aggressive, unshaven Giles. I know why he's being a jerk, but I don't like it. I want normal, fatherly Giles back, but I don't think we'll see him until Buffy comes home.
5. Yay for Vamp!Xander fighting and slaying other vampires! Also, raise your hand if your heart sort of broke when Xander fell to his knees after slaying a vampire whose last words were, "There is no in-between".
6. GILES!!! YOUR BEHAVIOR IS NOT OKAY! I have a feeling, though, that something is affecting Giles other than Buffy's disappearance. Still, he owes both Jenny and Xander huge apologies later.
7. Who is this person creeping on high school students' social media? And why? How will this connect to anything?
8. Is this who I think it is? Is it? Could it be? KENDRA?
9. I like that Robin is being tied back into the plot in an important way now that Buffy is gone temporarily. Let's see where his character goes.
10. Yes, I was right! It's Kendra! And God, am I happy to see her! Sunnydale always needs a slayer.
