I'm obsessed.

I absolutely loved everything about this book.
The Wailing Woman is about a girl named Sadie who is a Banshee, along side her 6 sisters. When Sadie is a child she gets her voice taken away from her, because a Banshee is not allowed to use their wail as it is very powerful. We jump in time to 10 years later and Sadie is having to use sign language as a way to communicate. Someone from Sadie's childhood re appears and chaos breaks loose, causing Sadie and her childhood friend, Tex, to run for their lives. We meet supernatural creatures along the way and go through this journey of discovery with Sadie and Tex.
I would say this story is definitely magical realism, as it is set in our world but obviously with magical elements and supernatural creatures living among us.

I don't even know where to start.
I adored the characters, I loved the relationships that occurred, the story line was amazing, the writing was gripping and easy to get through. I loved the touch of humor throughout this story as well!

I thoroughly enjoyed the supernatural element! Besides Banshees, this story also includes werewolves, demons, shape shifters, witches, ghosts, selkie's, ghouls and so many more. I was in supernatural heaven.

The sign language representation I thought was done very well and it was nice to see a book show this.

I could go on and on about how much I enjoyed this and what I loved about it, but I don't want to spoil anything either. I am just so happy that this isn't a stand alone and there will be more from these wonderful characters!

Review to Come, but let me say that this was an amazing book. It was fun and emotional and, as an Irish Australian, exciting to read.

Australia set urban fantasy that combines all the lore and myths of the world as one would expect in diaspora and a character who signs Auslan?

YES PLEASE.

I did not know I needed this book in my life until I got it as book mail.

I loved the supernatural creatures and beings, the descriptions of this hidden world within ours and I adored Sadie. She was such a little cinnamon roll, albeit with teeth lol. [Texas was also adorable lol]

All the secondary characters were completely fabulous as well! I loved all of them and cannot wait to read more of this world to know more characters. There were witches, ghosts, banshees, wombat shifters, werewolves, demons, it was a plethora of amazingness.

I also loved that all of these supernatural beings were in one land. Lewis uses the diaspora of Australia to her advantage and it is a well-blended and diverse world because of this.

So

Pros:
-Loved the Writing Style
-Loved the characters
-Corruption in the government
-Diaspora of supernatural beings
-Amazing library run by a demon
-Auslan sign language getting Rep!
-Love story
-On the run and hiding scenes are amazing
-Well-paced

Cons:
-Love story felt a little rushed, but at the same time it didn’t feel unnatural so I wouldn’t say it was a huge issue.
-Ending is unsatisfactory, GIMME THE NEXT BOOK.
