Great little Halloween read. I'm a big fan of Halloween... and I kinda reeeally liked Halloween, the Fiend, as far as creepy, creature feature, villians go. The Townies seemed more the issue to me.
2022 Horror Reading Challenge: Ancient Entity
Cv Hunt takes all the traditions and fun of Halloween, twists them at attaches them to an entity that haunts a small town. Every day the town must offer an animal, or a treat, to Halloween. Every year in October they must offer up a human. So it’s a really cool idea, I just didn’t care about any of the characters. I didn’t care what happened to them, about their journey, nothing. I just wanted to learn more about Halloween. So as far as a complete piece of work, it’s lacking. The concept and creature of Halloween is really cool, and worth reading just for that.

The suitably spooky, and of course Halloween themed, cover art of Halloween Fiend (plus a recommendation and its availability on KU) made me eager to pick this one up earlier instead of saving it for the Halloween season…
Such a fun Halloween short story, I loved the dates dialect and the horrifying aspect to the story.
A really great Halloween or Fall read. Super quick and gives off Syfy channel monster flick vibes.
A quick (110 pgs) , fairly enjoyable read perfect for spooky season. But honestly the ending sorta ruined it for me.
The buildup was pretty good, the monster was pretty spooky (except when it wasnt). But the characters were flat, the big reveal obvious, the death of the monster too easy (hey, did anyone ever think to try to just stab it?) and soooo many unanswered questions.
I feel like the set up was there, it could have been so good, but it just missed the mark really. I wished we could have gotten some more lore about the monster. Like ANY, at all. Lore would have really made this story work, i think. I know its a short story, but like a paragraph or two even.

pretty fun! probably more like a 3.5 ⭐️, I didn’t care for the ending but otherwise I had a good time reading it and it had some genuinely creepy moments. I will definitely read more from this author in the future.
"Creatures from hell roam on this night, for tonight is the night of fright."

Halloween Fiend is the latest release from CV Hunt, and I've been looking forward to reading this one once it got closer to Halloween. I liked this idea of this book, but I had a tough time connecting with the story and characters.
This is a very slow build, especially for a novella, and I just didn't have much interest by the time things finally started happening. I've read a couple other CV Hunt books & enjoyed them, but I couldn't get into this one. For some reason, it felt juvenile. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the story seemed to be at odds with the tone of the book.
Normally I stay away from books involving animal stuff, but a couple other readers told me there weren't graphic animal scenes, and this is correct. I appreciate that.
