I generally liked The House in the Cerulean Sea, but I would have appreciated this a lot more had I read it in 2020 (aka sequestered in my apartment and in dire need of all the cozy reads). The setup was very high-stakes, but the plot ended up feeling low-stakes, such that I kept expecting something to happen. I liked the characters (Lucy was lowkey my fave), even if Nigel was a total drip for most of the book. It's a smooth, easy read that would make a good (literary) palate cleanser.

A cozy story that also gets deep into social issues. The young characters were my favourite part of the story; the adults really got on my nerves. I wasn't a fan of all the philosophical discussions (the dialogue wasn't realistic and tended to drag) and the way song lyrics were written into sentences. Other than that, the writing was wonderful.

Cerulean was recommended as similar to The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, but I prefer Witches as a cozy, comfort, found-family read.

This is such a lovely lighthearted fantasy. And the descriptions are great, you can totaly imangine the ambiance and the characters. Part of me hopes they will make a movie/series out of this book because it would do great on screen.. part of me hopes they dont in fear of it being misrepresented and ruined

When I started this book it was the exact opposite of what I expected.
It starts off in a rainy city with a man in a dead-end job. I expected a story about magical children on a beautiful island.
But I kept reading and soon I got sucked into the story. It was a different reading experience for me since I had never before read from the perspective of an older man, but I enjoyed it. As soon as we got to the Island I began not just enjoying this book but loving it. The children are all so unique, amazing and endearing. I really liked the writing style and how the author could make me truly like all characters, even children like Theodore who didn't speak a language we understand.
All in all I would absolutely recommend this book. It is way more than just a fun book about children on a beautiful island! (even though it is that as well)

I loved this book so much! I love all the children and Arthur and Linus and Zoe so much, I can't pick a favorite. I read this book faster than anything I've read in a long time because I couldn't wait to escape into their beautiful world

I loved this book! It was such a cozy read throughout, and the found family that Linus finds while on social work assignment was so comforting. I loved the connection he had with all of the children (Chauncey the future bellhop is my favorite child), and the adorable romance with Arthur that was slowly boiling away throughout. I read this book in 4-5 days, which is really impressive for me since I am a very slow reader, so I recommend this to anyone who is in a reading slump or would just like a comforting read to get them through the depressing bog of reality.
