I mean, the testimonials weren’t it. And I hope that feedback gets to whoever needs to hear it, so I’m giving 3 stars even though I feel like it’s a 5 star idea.

Counting down has helped me motivate myself AND act, which was the entire point… right? Or was the point knowing that it’s helped so many other people?

I really enjoyed this book. I will be reading more from Mel Robbins. This rule is so helpful and and can truly change how we do things in our life.

Perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’ll be damned if this trick didn’t cure me of hitting the snooze button. I’m all about finding a nugget of something that works.

I really like the premise of this book and I have found it useful so far but there is no need for 15 real life examples/testimonies in every chapter. It bogged the book down and I started skipping those parts. Get a better editor Mel. People will still buy a shorter book.

Practical, inspiring advice

I expected this book to be gimmicky or like a blog post that had gone on far too long. I was pleasantly surprised. I picked 5 Second Rule after seeing Amy Landino interview Mel Robbins. The 5 second rule offers practical advice for overcoming procrastination, anxiety and fear. Properly applied, it can give you a kick in the pants to be your authentic self or to prevent introverts from turning into hermits.

My personal experience: I woke up before my alarm and wanted to put the 5 second rule into action, so 5,4,3,2,1 ... I opened my eyes. Turned out it was only 12:41, so I had several more hours to sleep. But the spirit was willing.

Definitely worth an open-minded read.

The idea and principle of the five second rule are great, but there wasn’t really anything profound in this book, and it was kind of a waste of time. Like another reviewer mentioned, it was just like a long infomercial. “No really! The five second rule changed my life! Thank you Mel!” It’s too simple of a concept to write an entire book.

If you’ve seen the TED talk or heard Mel talk about the 5 Second Rule, you’ve probably got the gist of this. It was interesting to see how lots of real-world people put the rule into use in their day to day lives.

It's a good theory and I plan on trying it out, however the endless amounts of screenshots and examples of "success" with the 5 Second Rule killed it for me.
